NON–PROFIT | Community Cup Football Is Back!
Tribes to gather again to celebrate Melbourne's love of footy, community and community radio.

One of Melbourne’s most unique events - The Community Cup – has been revived with Reclink announced as the event’s new charity partner. It will take place on Sunday June 21 2009, the traditional second weekend of the AFL split round, at Elsternwick Park.

The announcement comes with great excitement (and after much effort) from community radio stations Triple R and PBS 106.7FM.

Much more than just a footy match between broadcasters (who together form The Megahertz team) and musicians (The Rockdogs - a team of Melbourne musicians founded by Jason Evans), the Cup has become an iconic Melbourne event and a celebration of the city’s vibrant musical and community broadcasting cultures.

And it’s all for a good cause.

“We were delighted to be asked by the radio stations to be involved in the Community Cup,” said Reclink CEO, Adrian Panozzo. “The Cup is a unique event that brings the community together through football and music - in a way it really symbolises who Reclink is and what we do.”

Community Cup founder Jason Evans is tickled pink that the tribes are able to gather again to celebrate Melbourne's love of footy, community and community radio.

“It is exciting to have Reclink on board as their programs are very close to the heart of Three Triple R and PBS 106.7 FM.  We have been fortunate to secure Elsternwick Park for this year; it will be a great home for the 2009 Community Cup," said Evans.

The event also welcomes the involvement of Melbourne Youth Community Broadcaster SYN FM who will take part in the Community Cup for the first time in 2009.

Program Manager at Triple R Mick James said that his listeners and broadcasters have a passion for the Community Cup and the good work that the money raised does in the community.

“We’ve worked so hard to get it back up and running and are really looking forward to the day,” he said.

“It’s a great combination worth seeing and a great reason for people to open their wallets and support our new charity partner, Reclink,” said PBS 106.7FM General Manager, Adrian Basso.PBS. “We look forward to sharing the field with our mates from Triple R.”
