ARTS | 'A Fistful of Scripts' Returns To Showcase New Writers

"I’d like to applaud Wise Works Media and Theatreworks for an evening like this. A Fistful of Scripts was a collection of new works presented as table reads for the benefit of their writers" | Reviewer, Jennifer Coles, Theatre Press, 8 Dec 2011

"I attended the reading at Theatre Works on Tuesday night and I have to say I absolutely loved it. The concepts, the environment, the creative energy, the boldness, the care....oh I could just go on and on. I cannot stop thinking about that monologue. The question now is not why but how?" | Audience feedback from Kerry-Anne Haffern, 9 Dec 2011

We write ‘em. They read ‘em. You hear ‘em.

Writers rode into town with a fistful of scripts and went lookin’ foractors and directors. When they got together all hell broke loose. Now they’ve formed a posse. When they find The Audience - Anything could happen.

'A Fistful of Scripts' [Season 3] presents scripts in a ‘read through’ or ‘staged reading’ format. It is for Writers, Actors, Directors and The Audience.

WRITERS write so ACTORS can act. ACTORS act so DIRECTORS can direct. The end result is to find an audience that HEARS words and SEES action.

ABOUT ‘A Fistful of Scripts’

Script readings give actors a stage, writers direct feedback and directors a chance to exercise creative muscle.

For everyone else its a window into the creative process - it's like being witness to people giving collective birth to a collaborative piece of work.  'A Fistful of Scripts' brings life to words off the page for both theatre and screen by some of Melbourne's most talented and driven artists. Open to the general public, admission is free.

Join Melbourne-based writers / actors / directors and friends for an afternoon or evening of 'cold' or 'staged' script-readings.

It's a great way for the creative types to stay 'match fit' in between gigs.

CLINT EASTWOOD - A BIT CHEESY ISN'T IT?
When he started out, Clint was just an actor looking for a gig.

Somewhere along the way he figured he needed to do things differently. So he went to Italy and made a few 'Spaghetti Westerns'. Not long after that he figured that he needed to change things up again. So he created 'Malpaso Productions'.

Take the work out to the audience. Need we say more?

That's the driving philosophy and rationale behind 'A Fistful of Scripts' - We write 'em. They read 'em. You hear 'em.

Feedback | Script Name
There is a genuine sense of tension / conflict between the characters
There is much at stake for the characters
Dialogue is believable
On the whole, the script is simply too contrived. Agree/Disagree, Why
The script assumes the audience can follow the various subtleties of plot and character without spelling them out and doesn’t set out to ‘spoon feed’ them. Did you find the information and other references satisfactory?
Did this script engage you or leave you with strong, visual images? If not, why?
How could this script be improved?
